I want to apologize to all the folks who i would normally be trading with, but i am pretty dad gummed disillusioned at this point in the whole card trading deal. I have been waiting nearly 5 months now at least to complete a pretty huge deal and we have went from the point of sorry for the delay.... to well not returning emails...... and this is not with a first time trader.....this is with someone who i have completed multiple deals..... i would say i have sent out at least $200 worth of cards or in other words my half of the agreed upon trade ..... I am trying my best not to go nuclear but......

so thats where i have been.... hope everyone else is having fun collecting.....

Is there anyone working on the Ginter code? Do you need any more images of code cards? I have 18 black and 8 golds that i can scan if needed...

no way am I doing the code..but i did find that those two cards lined up...if that helps at all...

BIG Mail day--trade edition

Went to the mail box today and this among other things--- this awesome envelope was looking back at me!!! My first package and trade completion from overseas--- Derby, Australia to be precise....AWESOME!!!! Our trade was already covered over at the home of Australia's Foremost Baseball Card Blog, which of course would be Jonathan of RGB Cards. There were also 2 other trade packages as well....

I picked out 3 of my favorites from the package that included Jays and Turkey Reds from my wantlist. They are the first row of cards below. My first 2011 card and it just happens to be future ace(here's hoping!!!) and Doc compensation-- Kyle Drabek... and its a gold #ed to 2011-- SWEET!! A 2010 TR Buster Posey, who came up and brought some much needed life to my fantasy baseball team last year! Oh and that strange mini of new found Jays slugger Jose Bautista--- a 2011 Kimball.... MEGA AWESOME!!! and dangit!!! now I need to collect these mini inserts.....so if you dont want the Kimball's-- fell free to send them my way!!!

There were also 2 other trade packages as well.... these are both responses to my Trade Bait post in the second row are a sampling of cards from Greg of Plaschkey, Thy Sweater is Argyle A 2008 Ginter bat relic of Carl Crawford-- btw I have decided to add as many relics and autos from 08,09 and 2010 Ginter, so if you have any of them to trade...let me know and we can try and work out a deal! Greg also threw in some random Jays and some cards from my teams in other sports, including my favorite former Xavier Musketeer--TYRONE HILL!!!! NICE and my all time favorite Jay--none other than Mr Tomorrow I'll be Perfect-- Dave Stieb! Thanks Greg!!!

And the third row is a sample of the contents of my first trade from Alaska from the impressively named cynicalbuddha at Collector's Crack, who got his package mailed out to be before I even got his put together--- so cynical-- never fear the Fielder bat relic is just waiting for me to find some more friends to include to send your way. Needless to say I went all Halladay to represent this trade.....including a relic and a mini and Turkey Red that was also needed from my want list. Many more Jays and minis and a major dent in my Turkey Red want lists were also in the package. Thank you for the trade cynicalbuddha and I hope u are enjoying your trip to the lower 48....and I will get my part of the trade in the mail soon.....

Since I am in the mood to package up cards and do some trading.....and potential trades are seeming to die out....I figured I may as well....prime the pump..... so if any of these are your fancy.....make an offer...I am mainly looking for other Ginter relics from 08-10 but knocking off items from want lists works good as well. COMC---well all know what that is right? Checkoutmycards.com so what does everyone think? I have been a buyer there for a few years and have done the turn around and resell, but I had never sent any cards in until the end of 2010. I have been a satisfied buyer but I am not sure what I think of it as a potential seller. As a cheapskate I of course went for the 8 week listing..... and the cards still aren't listed-- of course the deadline is 2/28 which means they will go up right at the deadline. Which seems mighty convenient. The order has been listed as 35% processed for at least 3 weeks now. This says to me cards are in the system and will get posted at the last minute possible, all in the name of getting sellers to opt for the higher priced faster processing. That may work for some folks, but to me, not sure it's going to work. Oh well I guess I shall see how it goes.

I am working on completing a few trades right now---been awhile and its nice to be working on trade packages.....of course i am waiting on a few addresses to get these packages sent out. Assuming the rain, ice, snow combination we are currently getting doesn't keep me from getting to the Post Office, I am going to get out my first non-North American trade! I have a package ready to ship down under to Jon of RGB Cards who claims to be Australia's foremost baseball card blog since 2010--- and I have to agree!!! So one new trade and a package to my favorite blogger and top trader--- some chap who posting as infrequently as me these days.... I am sure he is working his ass off!!! That would be The Collective Troll of course! So guys look forward to some mail....

Ok technically these are the best cards I have received in trade in 2010, or at least my favorite!
The 2 minis in the top row are the first 2 ext minis that I have gotten in trade and they both came from Baltimore's best card blogger.....Beardy, one half of the unstoppable blogging force known The Mojo Beard. I would love to trade for any EXT minis that anyone would like to trade!
The other card on the top row is one that I have needed to finish my 1988 Score football set since probably 1990 and it arrived to me via my favorite trading parter Bradentuckys finest roller derby fan The Collective Troll. THE BARRY SANDERS ROOKIE!!! Yee HAW the TROLL rules!!!!!
The last 3 cards all come courtesy of Jeremy of the great blog that no one reads. A worlds saltiest sailor and 2 custom made cards...... These are the first 2 custom cards i have ever gotten..... A Willie Stargell and 1 of me I guess.......or at least my blogging alter ego..... Totally AWESOME!!!

I am conflicted on what to do---keep it and consider it a start on the set or sell and wait a while until the prices come down and look to reacquire it. Any thoughts? I mean "Calico Jack" does sound like one cool ass sailor, so there is that.

Well its down to waiting for arrival. I just won the last card i needed to finish the ENTIRE 2008 allen &ginter regular back mini set 1-400. Thats right, upon arrival I will have finished the extended mini set! I guess that means on to the next project which is the 2009 A&G back mini and ext set, I only need 2 more a&gs and about 20 of the exts.
As for the 2010 minis, I have my want lists added to the post below. I have plenty of cards to trade and I am looking to deal. Thanks for your consideration.

I know it has already been touched upon by others, but.....why in the heck is Eric Byrnes in this years Ginter? Were there really no better choices? Oh well all these minis are available for trade, the 2 black borders are SPs, I have decided I am not even going to pretend to chase the black bordered minis this year. I know the NNOs are limited to 50 but w/o them being numbered /50 I guess I just dont care, I liked the 09s havent liked the other years.

How can I pass up a cabinet card that features Chester A. Arthur and his awesome facial hair? I can't! If it weren't for me being a big US History buff, I am sure the I would only know of Chester A. Arthur because of his famous middle school--- well the one named after him anyways. No links i am too damn lazy for that. Most of you should know the reference!

I would say that all of these are available at the right price.....though the extra Tulo and Prince need to find a new home! I like that i got a pile of bat relics instead of the pile of jersey relics i have from previous years. Oh and sorry about the 3 cards that are in sideways...it was the only way to get all 10 cards onto the scanner. I kinda like the fire like frames on the relics this year, they do stand out. I suppose i am looking for Blue Jay relics and Tom Knapp..... I really want Tom Knapp stuff, so if you have any goofy Tom Knapp items or even extra base cards....I will be glad to give them a new home.

As i get the 2010 Ginters in I am going to try and keep up my list of cards available for trade.....I will try...this i s my goal. I have not and dont plan on ripping any hobby boxes of Ginter, unless of course prices really come down. I may be ripping some retail. For now though it is all ebay and my thirst for Ginters is satisfied by buying up underpriced lots of minis. Here is one of my first lots to arrive a nice stack of N43 boxloaders. I like the n43s and the Cabinet cards as well, especially the non baseball cabinet cards.....its like the history channel on a giant baseball card.

I figured it is about time to post that I am still around here collecting cards---- although i am really down to chasing Ginters and Masterpieces and a few old sets i am trying to finish. I have started picking up some 2010 Ginter minis and if you need a home for any of your minis.....please keep me in mind. Especially if I have built up good will with you over the last year or so as a good trader. I am down to one card to finish off the ENTIRE 2008 Allen & Ginter regular back mini set.... #374 Jackie Robinson. That is my most wanted card at this point in time. If you click on the image you can see that these are are 2008 Allen and Ginter regular backed minis numbered 346-360. Yep, those are the first 10 of the extended mini set. I have decided to make the attempt to collect the 2008 and 2009 extended mini set in addition to the reg back, a&g back, and half hearted effort to get the black bordered minis as well. For 2008 I have all of the subsets completed as well. I am 4 short on the extinct creatures subset in 2009, and I have all of the other subsets completed including the future inventions set. I have a number of doubles in the extended minis to trade if anyone out there has any that they would like to trade.

I am only 3 cards short of having all 50 extended minis for 2008, the 3 I need are: Matt Holliday, Torii Hunter and Jackie Robinson. This has been a fun group of cards to chase and I will be very happy when I am able to acquire those last 3 cards that I need.

I am sure some of you know what the completed page is but i will leave it open for others to take a guess. I am very close to a bit of a crazy collecting project that i started a few months ago and this is the first of hopefully 3 more pages it will take to finish the quest. Wicked Stargells

Yes i am a lazy poster....hopefully I am not a lazy trader! Above are a mess of Willie Stargell cards I got from the awesome blogger Wicked Ortega. For me as a set collector, nothing beats getting cards in a trade that fill my wantlist, BUT a Masterpieces card of my all time favorite player Willie Stargell, well that sure does come close! Oh but it is not just any Masterpieces card it is a silver framed gem # 20/25. I love it! Of course i cut the whole right side of the card off in the scan. I got to say the whole bunch of these cards are nice, I mean a 3-D Kellogs card, SWEET! Thanks so much Don! I need to get some Marlins heading south for you at some point in the near future!

Oh btw these trades were completed MONTHS ago.... the second group of Stargell arrived from the north, oh not to far north just from the great state of Michigan courtesy of Larry the sewingmachineguy. Larry sent a whole bunch of cards including some 09 goudeys and a pile of 83 Topps, a bunch of Blue Jay cards and these awesome Stargells! I must say the Larry is one heck of a trader. Thanks again for dealing I am working on getting some more packages out. I have got the 08 Masterpieces black frame set completed! That is on awesome looking set! I am closing in on the 09 Ginter A&G backed mini set, as I need less than 20 to finish that off. Oh i some really neat stuff to get posted in the future, which means hopefully before 2011. That is the only 1967 card that I know I have.... and it is of course of my man Wilver Dornell Stargell.... I love my Wilver cards and my next post will feature some "Pops" cards that I received from larry the sewingmachineguy and the gloriously wicked ortega. As evidence I present these top notch cards of 3 HOFers and a degenerate gambler that were among a much larger package of over 100 cards off of my 83 Topps wantlist. Trade with the Bearded one

Here are a few cards that I got back in a trade done with the infamous arch nemesis of one thorzul. Yep I did a trade with Beardy who can also be found here in his new joint venture with mojo. I have no idea who is Jerry and who is Newman in this Seinfeldian feud of Beardy and Thorzul nor do I really care! It is amusing to all of us though. I may be a bit jaded as this here Pittsburgh Steelers fan did a favor for a certain fan of the Ravens and backed off of a Nick Markakis card....only to watch said Ravens fan go and lose the bidding on the card. Moral of the story: never expect a Ravens fan to do a damn thing right!
Oh I jest.....onto the trade...this was my eagerly awaited first trade with the world famous baseball card blogger Beardy...and it was worth the wait. By the way...to any other famous bloggers out there who havent traded with me....Lets get it done! I am sure you have some A&G backed minis that I can use! Sorry bout that on to the trade:

WOO HOO my first Blue Jay ripped card!!! Awesome! I now have at least 15 of the 08 Rip cards(all ripped- of course). Those cards contained among other things the extended mini cards, which I am now collecting, in an oh by the way mention. Someday I will put up some scans of what I have of them. So if you have an extended mini or 2----I am interested in them for sure. He also sent some assorted 08 Ginter minis....I have included a scan of the Jays, he also sent some other A&G backs....but those hit my album immediately so no scans of them. Beardy also sent along a few 09 Goodwins...of which i only have a few, but I do like the ones I have. He sent a black bordered gypsy queen backed Vernon Wells....which I understand and he included a Brian Roberts and a Cal RIPken, which I suppose goes well with the other Rip card.

In my quest to finish mini sets and to find the last 2 base cards(DONE--thanks to Joe at Cobb and Halladay) I realized that I had totally skipped over my need for AGHS12 so I guess I do not have a complete base set yet. I need your help finish that set off.

I have gotten way behind on posting all the great trades that I have gotten in. So bad that my lack of organization has burned me. I had stacks of cards from trades ready to scan....not names or anything I could keep track of who sent what right? RIGHT? WRONG!!! I have lost track.....so I may have to just scrap it.....I may or may not post some of the scans....if you sent them to me hey feel free to take credit! If we have traded and you are not sure if I have received your cards yet, either ask or figure I have because I don't think anyone owes me anything and I have let at least some of you know when I have gotten the cards.

As to the contest winnings I got the Emmitt card from Joe at Cobb and Halladay and it is sweet....it is the first football relic I have ever received. He also sent the last 2 cards for the 09 ginter base as posted above and some 09 Goudey and some much needed 08 Upper Deck base and some 2007 Ginter base set cards. I have included a few here in the picture along with the Emmitt. Thanks for holding the contest, Joe and I am working on getting cards together for you, but I may be a few days on getting it done.

I still cant get over how much I enjoy all the years of the Ginter cards.
Oh I should be having a 1982 Topps want list up soon and since I enjoyed the Masterpieces sets so much, I decided to go for the 2007 Winndsor Green parallel set and the 2008 black border set as well. I have some cards on the way and will get those lists up soon as well. Oh do I now regret trading some of those away in the past. I am thinking of that 07 Green Pujols that I traded.....that will be tough to replace I do believe!

Trade Bait and general update

I have a ton of packages to get scanned in, I have gotten very lazy lately. That includes packages from Big D, roll out the barrell, sharpe since 92, cheap seat saints, Joe, and I think that is all. I have sent out the Trade Bait package that Beardy claimed, I have wicked's ready to go, as well lit's like having my own card shop. I am still waiting on hearing back from dayf, but he's the godfather so he can take his time. I have been to go through lists to put together a trade for Nachos Grande---I will get it done Chris! Oh and I have to put together a Reds package for Joe. so that is where I stand. I think.

As if my obsession with 08 and 09 ginter minis was bad enough already and since I have officially finished my 08 Goudey(woo hoo) I have expanded my Ginter collection....I have started chasing the extended minis from the rip cards....there are 50 of these from each year and I have like 12 of 08's and 13 of 09's. So if you have any of these that you dont know what to do with....I am chasing those sets! I have also picked up some silks and printing plates from 08 and 09. I havent been able to chase down any of the wood minis though. I will post the silks and plates at some point and I am willing to trade some of these if they are of players or teams that you collect.....I know I will never be able to collect the whole set of these, I just like some samples of each season.

I have also realized, thanks to sorting my 89 Score footballs to help with sewingmachineguys want list that I have a ton of 80's football and basketball for that matter that I can trade from. Right now when it comes to non-baseball I think I would like to add Virginia Tech alums in football and basketball and Xavier alums in basketball and Penguins in hockey.

I will have a want list up soon for 1982 Topps baseball. I found way more of these than I anticipated---looks like I need less than 50 of these.....though I may need to upgrade some of them.....these were well loved(or abused, I am not sure which!). Which means I have some of these to trade as well if you need any..... though if you are looking for mint cards... these will surely not fit that requirement.

This has taken me way, way,way too long to post and to make it worse it was such an awesome trade. I am so sorry offy for the delay. Here are some scans of the what I would say ate the highlights of a trade from a while back with offy from Offy's Sports Site. Thanks for the great trade.

This first group has a couple of 09 Ginter Blue Jay relics....which is something I never got in 08 Ginter--Blue Jay relics....so that is a win. Also handful of bordered Masterpieces......I am always game for Masterpieces especially the parallels! I will take any of them you would like to trade me, for sure. Then to finish off this group a couple of early Carlos Delgado as a catcher cards. I don't have many of these, seeing as how I wasn't collecting during this time frame, and that is my only Delgado in catcher gear card, so, well that is nice.

I guess I can now call these a group of former Blue Jay greats. An awesome Cracker Jack Halladay and so much shiny, chromey goodness it hurts my eyes, well not really but you get the picture. I mean Chrome and Turkey Red, that is all kinds of WIN!!! I am still amazed whenever I get a Pinnacle card, those things are awesome. I would have went broke collecting those sets! Oh a Robbie getting ready to slide past Tony Pena for a score and an UD shiny reflecty Alomar that is just cool.

I have been very slow in getting these posted. I got another package from the TROLL a while back. I know it had a bunch of 2009 A&G minis that I needed and a couple of relics from 08 Ginter as well. We have all seen all of these cards so I just pulled a couple to scan. I can't remember if there were any other cards in the package or not.

I just completed a trade with Wicked at My Past Time.....I Love it and while this was our first trade I have a strong feeling it won't be the last......I wonder if I can get a bulk discount for sending cards to Florida or as it should be known...the land of Wicked Trolls! Anyway the trade was prompted by me wanting the 1973 Home Run Leaders card featuring my guy "POPS" Mr. Wilver Dornell Stargell..... and proceed to include 2009 Goudey, 2009 Ginter minis, and many Blue Jays and a few other cards.

Well much too my surprise there was not one but two of the Home Run Leaders cards.....wait what is this foil and heck they aren't the same card.....what is this 2001 Topps Archive.....oh wow I have none of these cards almost the same card but not exactly....super cool! Also there it is the last card I needed for 2009 Topps Series 1----Bud Black.......it is done..... There is a 2009 Ginter base card a RC of Elvis Andrus and a few of the cards I needed for 2009 Goudey.
The second group features a group of minis that I need including National Heroes--NH6 and my first Goodwins mini, neat cards......One card I didn't show, thanks to wicked I now have my first 2 ticket to stardom including the godawful ugly Scott Rolen card.....what a horrid card......and he sent along an awesome Dimitri Young year in review card featuring him wearing a Virginia Tech cap, great stuff! Well a while back Mark at stats on the back posted his non-baseball cards he was looking to unload, you know Mark is pretty set--no stats on the back no collect! Well I claimed a 2008 Goudey Kerri Walsh one of the last few cards I needed for that set.

Thanks for the tough to find Goudey Mark! I am also down to 1 card needed to finish the 2008 Goudey set---- 325 Sidney "Sid the Kid" Crosby.....how do I not have the Penguin from the set......Help please!!!
Oh of course Mark couldn't just send 1 non baseball card.....He included a nice stack of random Jays......

Since I had really quit collecting in 91 or so.....I don't have many cards from the World Series years, so Carters Alomars and Molitors will always bring a smile to my face. Ahhh the memories of a much more enjoyable time to be a Blue Jay fan.

I have realized I am horrible at keeping up with this. I am especially terrible at getting these trades posted. I am no where near as organized as the Troll, that is why when I start a trade process, I try to finish it quickly. Because if I don't I will lose track of the cards that I have pulled. That is also what happens when I get trades in. I try to get every thing logged in and sometimes I get the cards scanned right away....other times I get a stack....as I have right now with a bunch of minis. I can't remember who sent what, although I know I got a nice bunch of 08 and 09 Reg and black and A&G backed minis from NIght Owl Cards, thanks Greg! I am sitting on awesome trade with Offy's Sports Sites, it is going to take some time scanning but it will be worth.....they are in their own box....so I know where they are.

I do however have some cards from Jeremy at No one is going to read this blog and No one is going to trade for this. Now he has already posted what I sent him...see I get the cards out fast, I just don't get the posts up! Here is what Jeremy sent me:

Here is the reason why I posted this wantlist---I got not 1 but 2 packages in the mail today containing 2009 Goudey(among other cards). These were the first cards from 09 Goudey that I have received in a while, so I might as use that as an opportunity to repost the list! The first package from Baseball Dad arrived out of the blue, there one from Drew was to complete a trade we had brokered. I will share more from each of these trades later.

These 5 all arrived from Drew as part of a trade we have just completed. It is the first time for me to trade with Drew, here's hoping we can do some more dealing. Only note I'll make on the cards is that 3/5 of them feature players in their old uni's and that Carlos Gonzalez is, well, kinda good! I picked him up down the stretch for a couple of my fantasy teams, and he earned my approval.

I am working on a trade with the TROLL, who I already was behind to, when he up and sent me more cards. Here are a few of them:

Just a few comments....The 3 highlight sketch cards are just, well, awesome! THe David Wright card is simply amazing, helpless catcher watching the ball head to the seats....wow.
As for the base cards....well they were all cards I needed to finish the set..which is really close to being done, but a few stand out for me. Charles Darwin, what an excellent card of a very important scientist, and he is still pissing people off 150 years later, how the hell can you top that! Samuel Morse and Louis Braille (along with Darwin) are examples of what makes Allen and Ginter so special, the historical figures, I am all about exposing folks to history.
The one baseball player from this baseball card set I would mention would be the Andrew Bailey, who had a lights out rookie season for the A's. He was a saviour for one of my 20 team fantasy leagues. I picked him up early in the season for his holds(yep they were a category for us) and he became my top closer before the end of the year. So here's to you Andrew Bailey. As always thanks to the Troll for the awesome cards--I hope these all were from you---I have another package to show off a bit later.

I have a new oldest card. A few weeks ago I had picked up a 1956 Topps Hank Saurer on the ebay, you know one of those impulse combined shipping that looks cool purchases. It was my oldest card beating out some mid-60's Willie Stargell. Not anymore. This delight is my new oldie. I had never heard of Dave Harris but it doesn't matter still an awesome card. I came across this card looking for 09 Goudey SP's and it was being offered by someone who had a good number of lots of the SP's(of which I bought a few). It is suppose to be a buyback and I got the buyback card as well. I would assume this would qualify as a case hit. I know I would view it as such. Including shipping I got the sucker for less that $10. Why in the world am I buying packs of cards? At prices like this I am going to build this entire Goudey set through lots on ebay---I know it will cost less that buying boxes. Oh yeah back to Dave Harris or should I call him "the Sheriff" as the back of his card says he is a sheriff in his hometown of Greensboro NC. He was also a heckuva hitter as that link to baseball reference shows and as I recheck that page I see BR shows his nickname is "Sheriff" so yeah. He was quite the hitter, with a 3 year run of OPS+ of 137, 146 and 142 and a 19th place finish in the MVP voting in the 142 year of 1932--which is really impressive for a guy who was mainly a pinch hitter. Not a bad player at all and an awesome add to my collection.

I am considering getting a case of each of these products, but I don't know if I really want to spend $1600 for 2 cases. I was wondering if anyone is interested in a few of the boxes of each product. I don't want to mess with a case break in the sense of selling by team or anything just to unload a few of the boxes at cost. I am having a hard time dealing with the idea of spending about $25/box more for A&G than what I paid for it in 08 but by ordering early I know the cards will be worth more to sell extras on ebay. Of course I would actually have to sell them on ebay and I haven't taken that plunge yet. I am just looking for any feedback on this. Anyone interested?

It looks like the A & G will be 75/box + shipping via Priority Mail.

I was all set to put up a Ray Halladay card because well it was a heck of a Halladay, but in making a stupid comment on a great video by dayf I realized I had to look up Kige and see what he is up to these days. Kige did not disappoint. Kige is pretty good. If you do not know of Kige Ramsey shame on you. Kige is pretty good. When you need hard hitting sports analysis you must tune in to Kige. Kige is multi talented now as well, he has a medical show, a relationship show---eat shit Dr. Phil--, a dining show.....you name it Kige can do it. Any way here is a taste:

One of my favorite sets is now COMPLETE!!!! Thanks to a nice package from the new king of the box break, I got the last 5 cards I needed for this set. Little did I know that needed 5 of the coolest cards in a very cool set. I received 2 Babes, a Kid, an Ass of a Peach and a smiling DW which has to make his biggest fans smile as well.

I sense a catcher in some major pain thanks to Ty Cobb and David Wright chilling ---very glad he is not that catcher.

I got an awesome bubblemail from Mark who has an awesome array of Tito Fuentes you should check out. I had sent Mark a stack of Goudey base and SP to help out his wantlist and he sent just a couple of cards but they were much needed. He sent 2 big name Goudey and 2 no name but much needed 2008 A&G minis. Here they are:

It was 1 of 7 that I needed to have finish my collection, well at least the 1 of every mini regardless of front of back collection. I am still working on getting all of the minis, but I really need to get something done before the 09's hit the streets. As someone who had Fukumori on a fantasy team at the start of last year, I gotta say that it sucks having to own one of his cards. He stunk out loud.

I sent some 07 and 08 Masterpieces to Baseball Dad and these are some of the goodies I got back.

This Felix Pie looks like a giant but it is actually one less mini that I need to complete the 08 Allen & Ginter regular back mini set. I am looking to trade for what I need.

I think these 2 cards are neat and they along with the card below are why I really liked the 08 Upper Deck base set. It smoked the 08 Topps so bad it wasn't funny. The 09's are just the opposite. I like the Maxwell photo from what I guess is the construction site of the new Nats' stadium(don't know don't care about whatever corporate sponsor it has). The Pods is just a sweet action shot of fundamentally sound bunting skills, something all Reds fans are all hanging their heads in shame over right about now. Oh well Pods still sucks out loud.

I really dig this John Buck card, not only is it a great play at the plate shot, but Grady is going to be safe---why would a tribe guy send me this card? Oh yeah, it was 1 of 17 off of my 2008 Upper Deck needs list, which is now down to 12 more cards. Please someone help me finish that set off!

Well I bought a Canon Lide 200 stand alone scanner for $100. Let's see if it works.
Last week a received a package of Earth Day goodies from Sooz.... recycled mailer and all. It was an all Halladay package of goodness. Here are some pics.....please let this work. It did.

First off I have to give a big shout out to Sooz who sent me an awesome Earth Day package of Roy Halladay's. Now that was a GREAT Halladay! Someday I will get some images up--these were some great cards. Thanks Sooz, I am trying to locate some stuff off your lists---you big time player collectors are tough for me to have cards that you need. But I will find some!

There was something that happened tonight, oh yea game 1 of 3 at the Skydome---Jays and Yankees. And it was a great Halladay, as Roy needed 103 pitches to mow down the Yankees 5-1. It was Doc's first complete game of the year and he gave up only 5 hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Roy is now 7-1 on the season and it gives the Jays a 23-12 record and they are now 4-0 vs the AL EAST (1-0 vs the Big Three).

I have got to get to work on some card packages that need to go out to folks. Catch y'all later.

Dear Eric

I think Matt LaPorta has fully developed the skill of sitting his ass on the bench. I know that your team is currently in first place and has a lights out offense(or not) and that keeping the bench warm is a very important. It is so important that maybe it would best to have David Delucci refine his pine riding skills. Maybe huh? I mean Matt LaPorta is the top prospect in the farm system right? As such wouldn't it make sense to not turn him into a strict platoon player at the start of his career? Four straight games on the bench, heck you all should have just left Trevor Crowe on the bench and kept Matt down in Columbus to keep kicking ass for the Clippers. Anyway just some thoughts, hope it all works out, of course you have a much bigger mess to figure out with the bullpen. Of course that problem doesn't have the built in solution as who to play in the outfield does, so good luck with that.

On what is shaping up to be a very good Halladay, I am going to give a shout out to a great Blue Jays website inspired by me all time favorite Jay, Dave Stieb. The title of this post is a link to their site. Good job guys! At this stage the Jays are well on their way to victory in Anaheim versus the Angels leading 13-0. Lyle Overbay just crushed a 3 run homer off of former Jay Justin Speier, who then promptly plunked Rod Barajas, which got Angel manager Mike Scioscia tossed. Oh yea back to Doc,,,well a shut out no more as the Angels just plated a run here in the 8th inning. Okay, go Jays.....Roy finishes the 8th with a final line of 6 hits 2 walks 1 run 6 strike outs and a good shot at going to 6-1 on the season. That would make the Jays 20-10 on the season and thanks to the Tribe and VMart taking to the Red Sox, the Jays will have a 2 game lead in the AL EAST.

I mean we each won a crappy game, so that is good, right? Nice story on Cito over at yahoo. Why would I bring up Cito Gaton you ask? The Jays won again! They finished off the 3 game sweep of the O's. That makes it 18-9 and a 2 game lead in the AL EAST. I think I heard someone say that is the best 27 game start in team history for whatever that is worth.
The Tribe comes to Toronto for a goofy 2 game set. I hope Dan and Dave are disappointed after this "series". Does 2 games really count as a series? Isn't that just a pair of games? After the Jays take them both, I then wish the Tribe well for a while.

Fantasy Baseball

Yep, I am a player. I am in 4 dork leagues because I am the King of Dorks! This has been my toughest start that I have ever had. I have played in 13 yahoo leagues coming into this season and I have only finished outside of the top 3 once. I have also played in 2 ESPN leagues and finished in the top 3 of both of them as well. I like playing in deeper leagues, meaning to me a 12 league is shallow. The league I am most enjoying this year is a 20 team terminator league set up by my friend Phil. We drafted 30 players per team for 600 total, a true test of player knowledge. We have had our first 2 cuts and we get out waiver claims monday morning. I am happy with my team and I was really happy coming out of the draft. I came to some realizations on strategy in the 2nd week of the season, and regardless of where I am in the standings today I am confident I will be at the top at the end of the season.

That makes it 2-0 in May and 17-9 for the season, and another day in first place. Scott Richmond goes for the Jays tomorrow as they look for their first sweep of the season. This has been a nice turnaround from the bad series in KC. It is a nice start to the season and all the wins count the same, but thanks to the schedule the Jays haven't played any of the big 3 yet. And it will be a while before they do. Here's hoping the pitching staff is healthy by then.

Another Great Halladay

I got in from the barn to see that the Jays were down 2-0 after Doc had given up a 2-run dinger to Nick Markakis in the 1st inning. The home run by Markakis caused me mixed emotions---the kind you get when one of your fantasy team players is facing your favorite team, and Markakis is a mainstay for my fantasy teams---I have him on 3 of my 4 teams. Anyway, Roy fought through the 1st and ended up having one of his typical games 8 innings 10 hits 4R 3ER 1BB 6K and the 8-4 win. Halladay cruised through innings 2 to 7, the 8th took 27 pitches and a visit from Cito, but Doc hunkered down and got Ty Wiggington to ground to Scutaro for a fielders choice and the 3rd out of the inning. Doc gave up 2 runs in that 8th inning leaving with a 6-4 lead. The offense added 2 more in the bottom of the 8th, making it 8-4 and Scott Downs closed out the non-save situation to preserve the win, a 16-9 record and first place in the AL EAST. Oh and Roy is now 5-1 on the year. This has been another installment of If every day was a Halladay.

Not baseball related, but, wow! Once Al Franken gets seated this will give Dems the 60 votes needed in the Senate to maybe, just maybe get some more stuff accomplished. I am stunned that Arlen actually had the guts to do this, but he had seen the polls and there was no way he would be able to win the Republican primary next year, so he did what was smart and switched. I expect plenty of articles out soon saying that this is a win for the Republicans and that somehow this is bad for President Obama.

Not a great Halladay

I guess every Halladay won't be great. The good guys made it close losing 5-4 to the Rangers tonight. Doc went 8 innings giving up 8 hits with 9 K's and no walks. His downfall was giving up 2 homers. Oh well you can't win em all. Today should be a fun filled high scoring game as David Purcey will be facing Matt Harrison. The Jays are still in first, which is good.

I am finishing up packages for Ed and Dinged Corners, they should hit the mail tomorrow. Hopefully.

Late Halladay

I am a bit late in posting this, but thursday was another Halladay and it was my birthday.....so that was a damn nice present. Like I say if everyday was a Halladay, it would be great. Just to recap 7 IP 8 H 1 R 8 K 0 BB and a Jays 9-2 win over the Twins. The win made Roy the Majors first 3 game winner. All around just a great day.

Mail Day

I just received a great package from Ed from dairy country or as we like to call it: the land of Thorzul. Ed knocked off a whole bunch of my 2009 Topps series 1 that I needed, I am now close enough to taste it! I will put what I need at the end of the post, so if you want to help me out there is the list. Ed also include a few Blue Jays cards, a couple of which are really nice and well he had already posted about them, so he has the images---which I am now going to try and use---let's see if this works. Well that didn't work....I guess I am not a bandwidth thief! Instead I just emailed Ed for the images. Let's try this:

RIP HARRY KALAS

Legendary voice of the Phillies and NFL Films Harry Kalas passed away today at the age of 73. He was found passed out in the broadcast booth before the game today. I guess that would have to be about as good a way to go as any. Maybe after a victory instead of before the game.....be able to catch one last game. One of the legends, Harry you will be missed.

HALLADAY!

Roy Halladay has a dang nice game against the Indians today as the Jays go to 5-1 on the year. BJ Ryan got lit up in the ninth and had to be bailed out by Jason Frasor. It's looking like BJ is the weak link in this really good pitching staff. The offense is leading the league in scoring(who woulda thunk it!). I think Cito will be a good influence on the offense allowing them to outperform the predictions for them all season long. It's David Purcey tomorrow and let's see if 6-1 is in the cards.

I got an ebay package today with the last 4 shortprints that I needed! I also have many thanks to everyone who traded me cards to complete this set. I should have the World Leader set done very soon and I need just 2 of the N43 box toppers so I am going for that as well now. I need David Wright and Matt Holliday to finish off that subset. Mail Day!!

I got in from the barn this morning to find a couple of packages outside my door, one of them being an awesome box from Dan over at Saints of the Cheap Seats. Dan hosted a box break of 2007 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection a few weeks ago. I participated in it and took the Blue Jays--of course---while I didn't get any big hits, btw, I still haven't ever pulled an auto, I got a couple of really cool base cards of Roy Halladay and Vernon Wells. A few weeks ago I had sent some cards to Dan (not much that's for sure!) and today I got the return box, Dan knocked off a bunch of cards off of many of my lists, 92 D, 83T 88 89 Score, 2008 Upper Deck base, 2007 UD Masterpieces and an awesome Dave Winfield Blue Jay card from 2008 UD Masterpieces. Thanks Dan!!! I have those AA and MM cards to get in the mail!

I haven't talked about my favorite players around here, I have the Jays listed up above, but not any players. My favorite player of all time is the late, great Wilver Dornell "Willie" "Pops" Stargell. I have no idea why, he just clicked for me a little kid. From there, Dave Stieb was my favorite Blue Jay and holds that honor to this day, although Doc Halladay is coming on strong! The third player who I liked as a kid was light hitting SS from the Padres Timothy Earl Flannery I really have no idea why I liked Tim until tonight when I was looking at the Flannery card that came from Dan. It is an 89 Score # 513 and right there on the back of the card in the write up about Tim not getting much playing time in 88 with San Diego was this quote from Tim "I think nine years isn't bad for a guy who can't run, can't hit, and can't throw, I go to bed every night with a smile on my face." I now know why Tim Flannery is one of my favorite players of all-time.

update on 3/7 I have to redo the list I have really nailed down the big cards and a few of the subsets. I have completed the Pioneers of Aviation and the Worlds Greatest Victories subsets. Well, pending delivery. If you need any of the WGV's let me know I have some extras.

I find this to be an incredible set and I am hooked on completing it. I am almost there on with the base cards, but I would like to do the mini's as well, they are a huge challenge, so many subsets! Here is what I need of the base cards:

I should have never went looking for cards on ebay, it is way too easy to spend money. I have went crazy chasing after 2008 Allen & Ginters lots trying to build the set, it has been coming along pretty good, but today I got a chance to buy 3 hobby boxes @ 56.33 a piece. I took it. I should have never been buying all those lots! I guess now I have plenty of A & G to trade. I do wonder though how many do I open and/or should I resell or keep the others?

My return to cards

This excellent post by dayf got me to thinking about my return to collecting. I collect cards during the '80s till the early 90's. I just kinda faded out of collecting while in college due mainly to the craziness of product, but the lack funds due to paying for college had some impact as well. In the last month, I came across some blogs about baseball cards, which got me to dig up my old cards, which got me interested in the new cards. So here I am buying cards, again just like a drug addict. I hold no illusions that I am going to get rich by buying cardboard, I enjoying collecting. I just don't want to be a sucker with what I buy. I still don't have a good handle on values. I am liking going back and finishing off my old sets----and spending way less money to due it now! That is what I am not sure of, should I even be messing with the junk wax? It is cheap and fun....heck I just got a 200 card repackage from Target for 6.99 yesterday and it was as much fun as opening new product. It is also a cheap way to see what I have missed and I can get a feel for what sets I like that I can now go buy cheap packs of. But should I? I just don't know.

I really dig all of these new cards, they just look good, especially the retro cards like Allen & Ginter, Goudey, and Heritage. Oh and the UD Masterpieces are sweet. I also realize that the sets from the mid to late 90s on are nice as well. But like a moth, I am drawn to the junk wax. What is up with that?

I do like sending out cards that other folks need. It felt really good sending Jeff the last 2 cards he needed to finish off his 90 Fleer set. It felt even better when a couple of days later he sent me 40 of the 50 or so cards I needed for that set. I never expected that, but damn it was sweet. Thanks Jeff! Thats all I have for now.

There I said it. That is how I feel about AROD and all the PED talk. The past is the past. It is time to move on. Baseball has testing now, and I say throw the book at players who test positive. You cannot change the past. Oh and it is great to see that if your name is Miguel Tejada lying to Congress is bad, but if it is Alberto Gonzales or Bradley Schlozman.....not so much

Oh and if your name is Karl Rove and you blow off a subpoena to testify before Congress..... NOTHING HAPPENS

I just received my mailer from Jeff over at Card Junkie . It was a glorious package of '90 Fleer cards, as I now only need 7 cards for the set. Thanks Jeff! you are da MAN!!! I need to find some more of the cards that you need. I am glad that I was able to send Jeff the last 2 cards that he needed to complete his 90 Fleer set. I am loving this trading from around the country. I have another package of cards to send out to Steve over at The Easy Life . OF course I have to go to the post office in this beautiful dusting of "White Death", but I think I can handle it.

I am planning on hitting some card shops in Columbus in the next couple of days, while I am down there for the Ohio Farmers Union convention. It should be a nice diversion from the insanity that will be the convention.

A New Twist

Goofing around on the net, I came across some blogs dealing with baseball card collecting...... which led me back to my drug of choice collecting baseball cards. Damn I had quit cold turkey back in the early 90's while in college. It was a combination of no money and too many brands of cards and too many gimmicks, so I gave it up. I kept all the cards and while I never did much with them other than move them with me, I still have all my old cards, well most of them. I know I have them all, I just can't find them all. Damn you '85 & '87 Topps! So while going through my old cards, trying to get them sorted, I have found that I can send my doubles off to other folks to help them complete sets. So I have sent out 2 packages---someday I'll get some links up to these guys blogs.

Which leads me to the point of this post, I have started buying cards---my coke problem! I have liked the 2008 Upper Deck cards and will work towards that set. I also really like the 2007 Topps Turkey Red cards, they are awesome. I have only bought cards at the Mt. Vernon KMART so I have not seen or been able to buy the sets that seem to be very popular, 2008 Topps Heritage and the 2008 Topps Allen & Ginter set. I have got hooked on the 2008 Upper Deck Goudey set though. I really like it so I am going to rip a pack that I got from a blaster box. I have no scanner so no images.

I think this is a pretty good pack---the sports royalty were short prints I believe and I don't have many of them. Glaus, Gordon and Granderson are doubles. I have to total up where I am on this set some time.....until the next time.
